Call to Joy, a quick, simple bit of encouragement to help empower you to create a joyfilled life. Between the meal prepping and laundry folding at home, the smart goals at work, and the daycare dropoffs and kid activities, what so many of us are looking for is joy, connection, and meaning. Hey everyone. Just popping in to the podcast here to give you a quick episode, on a way in which all you busy mamas can add a little smidge of joy and meaning to your day. Today, I’m focusing specifically on the morning.

What are your mornings like? Are they a frenzied rush, is it chaos, are their points for meaningful connection with your kids? If you are working mom with a full plate, and trying to rush out the door in the morning to drop off and work, sometimes, it can feel like just getting out the door in the morning is a sprint and that there is no time for anything else. And yet, at the same time, I know what so many of crave are those connections with our kids. Those moments. Those snuggles. Those hugs and kisses. Even when we have to keep things moving in the morning.

I know when I start my morning off with a connection point with each kiddo, we all have better days. One thing I started doing this spring, when it felt like things were getting a little “full and busy,” was to have a good morning ritual with them each day. They don’t even really know that I do this, but it means so much to me.

So, every morning, when I first see them, I do my best to greet them with eye contact and a smile and tell them, “Good morning, I love you, its so good to see you.” Sometimes, I get a hug back, or I can take their hand and give it a squeeze.

This is the first thing I say, even though I’m also thinking, oh my gosh, you are just getting up? Go eat breakfast. Let’s move. Wear shorts today, its hot. If your brain runs a mile a minute, I know you can relate.

When I do this ritual, it helps me feel so connected to my kids and so grounded and aligned with my values as a mom. Because, I’m a mom first. Iif I can just make time and space for this one thing, then I feel like I started my day off right. Its kind of like the mom-equivalent of making the bed for me.

I love having a morning ritual with my kids, and as you can see it is totally simple and easily implemented, and helps to bring some mindfulness to a busy time of day.
