Hi, I'm Jen Larimore. And like you, I'm a mom first, a mom of five to be exact. I'm also a lawyer turned life coach and I'm on a mission to help working moms, ditch the overwhelm and stress so that they are. Happier calmer and more productive. Let's go from frazzled and barely surviving to fulfilled joyful and thriving.

If you are a mom who wears a lot of hats and you're looking for support, then you're in the right place.

Just popping into the podcast here to give you a quick episode on a way in which all your busy mamas can add a little smidge of joy and meaning to your day today, I'm focusing specifically on bedtime re rituals for mom and kid connection. As with the morning ritual that I shared last week, having a little bedtime ritual with my kids helps me to feel more connected.

With my kids and more grounded in and aligned with my values as a mom, because after all, I'm a mom first. So over the last decade and a half as a parent, I've tried a lot of different bedtime rituals. I had some kids who were not the best sleepers, so we really had to sort of like trial and error, figure this out.

Some rituals that we had over the years were more elaborate than others. And at the end of the day, what I found out was that even. More than sleeping. Well, what I loved about these rituals is how they created a time and space at the end of each day, for me to focus on what was most important to me and to connect with my kids.

I think a lot of folks do this already. It can show up in the form of a good night hug or kiss a bedtime book or song or prayers. For instance, for me, for the longest time, it showed up as a bedtime song, super simple and. Just the words I love you sung over and over again to the tune of twinkle, twinkle little star.

I used this goodnight song as a ritual for years, and I still use it to this day with my youngest kiddos. What was great about doing this song was that my husband could put the be kids to bed and I would come in and sing them the song. And that would be our moment. And what was really interesting is that this song gave my kids a point of connection to me when they were prepping for bedtime.

Even if I couldn't be home and like physically there for bedtime. So if I had to work late, I would tell them, I'll sing you our song. When I get home, even if you're asleep, you'll still hear it in your dreams. And same thing. If I was sick in bed, like with morning sickness for my last pregnancy, I had to go to bed so early most times, but then I would get up in the middle of the night.

And so I would tell my kids that during that time I did have to rest. But when I got up in the middle of the night, And if I missed their bedtime, I would come in and I would sing to them. And again, they would hear that song in their dreams. So I would get up, I would go do that special tuck-in song, even though they were asleep.

We always had this point of connection that we could rely on. So even if I couldn't physically be there to do it, they knew that in spirit that it was coming, it meant a lot to them. And honestly it meant a ton to me. I still use this technique to this day and with my big kids, who've outgrown this song a bit.

I'm working on a new nighttime ritual to help us all feel connected to each other at the end of the day, because ultimately that connection with our kids bring so much meaning and joy to our daily lives as mom.

All  📍 right, that's this week's call to joy. I hope it resonated with you and inspired you to fill your lives with more joy. I will see you next.
